We just celebrated July 4th and it got me thinking it is due to strong leaders that America was born. Nowadays it seems everyone wants to be a leader or influencer. However, being a true leader is difficult because a willing group of people who want to follow you is necessary. These people must believe in the leader’s vision and trust their leader will take them to a better place or achieve something greater together.
In my experience, a true leader needs to be credible. A leader needs to communicate messages and provide guidance that will improve the lives of others and help them build better lives. Most importantly, when it comes to doing work, a leader should be willing and able to do the things demanded of others.
To truly lead, one must provide a purpose to the team. Our forefathers provided the purpose of having a home–a country–where we can govern ourselves and seek life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They were able to rally and inspire citizens to do what it takes to meet their goal, which was freedom. And they succeeded.
Consider doing some self-reflecting to assess how you lead.
