Halloween is just around the corner. To celebrate, many homeowners may decorate their homes to look like haunted houses. However, this may be a reality for some households across the country.
George Matthis, co-founder and president of the National Society of Paranormal Investigation and Research, recently told Houselogic while haunted houses are fairly uncommon, they do exist. In many cases, homeowners notice events that make them believe their house is haunted, but there is a reasonable explanation.
Typical reports of a haunted house include seeing shadows, hearing voices, knocking on walls and feeling unexplained warm and cold spots. Matthis notes many people want to believe these events occur, so their minds might play tricks on them.
Matthis suggests people who encounter paranormal activity in their homes should tread lightly. Not matter what, show no fear. Simply acknowledge it’s there and leave it alone.
Can remodeling your home upset a ghost?
There are a number of theories claiming that making changes to the structure of a home can upset spirits. Some homes believed to be haunted experience increased paranormal activity once a renovation is completed.
While having a ghostly housemate might prevent many first-time homebuyers from purchasing a property, others say they don’t mind. According to a survey conducted by Realtor.com, 32 percent of consumers say they wouldn’t mind buying a haunted house. However, they would expect a major discount.
Some buyers claim they would be more tolerant toward certain paranormal events. For example, 62 percent said they wouldn’t mind if their home had unexplained warm and cold spots. In contrast, only 35 percent they would put up with voices.
For people looking to buy a home, there are a number of loan options. Whether you are looking for a VA mortgage loan or interested in refinancing an FHA loan, Freedom Mortgage can help you find the best mortgage loan rate.
